Africanyon offers guided canyoning (“kloofing”) trips in the forested mountains just outside Plettenberg Bay. Descend through a river gorge by hopping down waterfalls, jumping into rock pools and even sliding on a rope zipline across a pool. Every level of adventurer is welcome – experienced thrill-seekers and first-timers alike can join because the guides handle all the technical rigging and safety instructions.

What should I wear and bring for an Africanyon tour?
You’ll get a wetsuit and gear from AfriCanyon, so wear a swimsuit underneath. It’s best to wear a comfortable shirt (even long-sleeve for sun and brush protection) and athletic shoes. You should bring towels, a change of dry clothes, and a packed lunch or snacks for after the trip.
Is canyoning safe for beginners or children?
Yes. All trips are guided by professionally trained staff. For the full canyon tour, you may do some rope abseils, but beginners are escorted and instructed at each step. The Short Intro trip has gentler slides and jumps. Children 8+ can join (with an adult), and guides make sure everyone takes it at their own comfort level.
How do I book a tour and what are the costs?
Tours can be booked online on their website or by phone. As of the latest info, prices are around R1055 per person for the full trip, R835 for the short trip, with morning and early afternoon slots. You must reserve at least a day in advance, since numbers are limited.
What happens if it rains or there are bad weather conditions?
AfriCanyon will still run most tours unless conditions are dangerous. (Because the canyon is sheltered, rain doesn’t cancel the adventure easily.) However, they do monitor weather, and if a tour is canceled for safety, your booking can be re-scheduled within a year.
Can I drive there or is there shuttle service from town?
Africanyon is in The Crags area (The Mill Centre on Animal Alley, near the Peppermill). You can drive and park on site.
